Perhaps more than any other room in the home, the bedroom is the room where you can really stamp your personality all over it. No matter what your age, it is your personal haven and should reflect you as much as possible. If you’re coming to redecorate your bedroom, consider how contemporary or retro furniture might fit in to your overall design.

When starting right from the beginning, first decide what furniture is necessary to house all your belongings. How much wardrobe space do you need? Would you require a dressing table and mirror? Do you need space to house an entertainment unit? If you’re going for a contemporary look, then try and keep furniture and accessories to a minimum and install only what you really need.

Modern bed frames and other bedroom furniture tend to have lots of clean lines and smooth finishes. As the natural shape of a bed is rectangular, perhaps consider balancing out the sharp corners with a soft, rounded armchair if you have space. A bedroom should, above all, be relaxing and put you in a mood to sleep, so the design should always reflect that as much as possible.

When it comes to a colour scheme, a popular choice is to go with pale walls and add splashes of bright colour in other areas such as with bed covers, cushions, curtains or a rug. This will keep the room from looking gloomy, which can also be achieved with contemporary lighting, such as table or floor lamps which continue the design theme you have chosen.
